There are many important steps you can take to help improve your wellbeing and reduce the risk of heart disease. These steps can be as simple as adding another serving of vegetables to your dinner plate. Read on

 

     

 Stop Smoking.  People who smoke increase their risk of heart disease up to four times more than nonsmokers. But if you quit now, your health risks start to drop immediately.

     

 Aim for a healthy weight.  Carrying around extra weight makes your heart work extra hard. The key to losing and maintaining your weight involves cutting calories and increasing physical activity. Often when trying to lose weight, hunger is your worst enemy; but vegetables can help satisfy you without a lot of calories.

     

 Get moving!  Experts recommend that we enjoy 30-60 minutes of physical activity every day. Every little bit counts, so find what you like to do and stick to it!

     

 Stay in charge.  You should be in charge of your health, and that includes making and keeping regular medical checkups and treating your body well by exercising and eating nutritious foods such as vegetables.

     

 Follow the experts’ advice by eating according to the Dietary Guidelines. This includes eating at least 5 servings (1 serving = ˝ cup) of vegetables and fruits every day. Eat a variety of colors for a variety of nutrients!
